Taylor Swift and Madonna Dominate MTV VMAs with Multiple Wins

The MTV Video Music Awards saw Taylor Swift and Madonna emerge as the night's biggest winners, with Swift taking home the coveted Video of the Year award for "The Fate of Ophelia" and Madonna securing Artist of the Year.

Swift also earned the award for Best Direction for "Opalite." During her acceptance speech for Video of the Year, Swift paid tribute to the late country music icon Dolly Parton, calling her "the ultimate showgirl" and dedicating the award to her. Swift also expressed her passion for directing, noting how the fans make the process rewarding. Her latest music video, "Patient Zero," was screened during the ceremony.

Madonna led the night with the most wins, securing Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration for "Bring Your Love" with Sabrina Carpenter, and Best Dance for "Confessions II – The Film." She also won Best Cinematography and Best Choreography for "Confessions II – The Film," and shared a win for Best Visual Effects with Ariana Grande for "Hate That I Made You Love Me."

Other notable winners included BTS for Song of the Year and Best K-Pop for "Swim." Lisa won Best Pop for "Dream," while Cardi B featuring Kehlani took home Best Hip-Hop for "Safe." Olivia Rodrigo's "The Cure" was named Best Alternative, and Bad Bunny received the award for Best Latin for "NUEVAYoL." Bruno Mars won Best R&B for "I Just Might." PinkPantheress and Zara Larsson, along with director Charlotte Rutherford, won Best Art Direction for "Stateside."

British artists also made a significant impact on the red carpet. Charli XCX impressed in a black mesh crop top and velvet skirt. Raye sparkled in a silver Georges Hobeika couture gown, later performing a medley and participating in a tribute to George Michael. Emma Bunton made a rare solo appearance, presenting an award to Madonna.

London-born Sienna Spiro was honored with the Best New Artist award for her viral hit "Die On This Hill." She also made her VMA performance debut in a custom silver minidress. PinkPantheress stunned in a burgundy polka dot Nina Ricci dress.

The ceremony also featured a tribute to grunge band Nirvana, who received the Video Vanguard Award. Members Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl accepted the award and remembered their late frontman Kurt Cobain. Kacey Musgraves performed a rendition of Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You," introduced by Parton herself.
