‘Take Charge of My Heart’ Ending: How the Netflix K-Drama Concludes

The Netflix K-drama Take Charge of My Heart concludes its supernatural romance with a finale that ties up loose ends for its central couple, Na Bo-bae and Baek Ho-rang, while resolving the familial conflict instigated by Ho-rang's cousin.

The Premise

K-dramas are known for their typically chaste portrayals of romance, but Take Charge of My Heart injects a unique supernatural element. Protagonist Na Bo-bae, a TV scriptwriter, possesses a condition where electrical currents course through her body, causing her to shock anyone she touches with her bare hands. This inability to experience physical intimacy has hindered her dating life and, consequently, her ability to write a convincing romance script. Meanwhile, chaebol heir Baek Ho-rang suffers from a failing artificial heart. A chance encounter in the hospital reveals that proximity to Bo-bae can charge Ho-rang’s artificial heart. More importantly, Bo-bae can touch Ho-rang without suffering any ill effects. The two strike a deal: Bo-bae will act as Ho-rang’s living charger while he awaits a heart transplant in three months, and in return, Ho-rang will date her for research. What begins as a transactional arrangement blossoms into genuine love.

The Ho-Rang Exception and His Parents' Tragedy

Bo-bae's unusual powers, stemming from a childhood lightning strike, are a central plot device. While Ho-rang's artificial heart makes him immune to her electrical shocks, the series also suggests a fated connection between them. Their relationship is further solidified by their necessary physical contact. Although their initial contract didn't involve touching, holding hands and embracing are more effective for charging Ho-rang's heart and help both characters realize their deepening feelings.

Ho-rang, an orphan whose parents died in a car accident during his childhood, grapples with his family's business. The finale reveals the tragic circumstances of his parents' death: Ho-rang's cousin, Choi Do-yoon, jealous of Ho-rang's position, lied to Ho-rang's parents about their son being in critical condition. In their haste to reach the hospital, Ho-rang's parents were involved in a fatal crash. Do-yoon has remained traumatized by this event and resentful of his family's treatment of him.

Kidnapping and Near-Fatal Consequences

Do-yoon's ambition to lead the family's TS Group leads him to plot against Ho-rang. Recognizing Bo-bae's importance to Ho-rang, Do-yoon kidnaps her on the night of the TS Group's 30th anniversary celebration. Simultaneously, Do-yoon spikes Ho-rang's drink, causing his artificial heart to lose power rapidly. Ho-rang collapses on stage during his speech.

Bo-bae uses her electrical powers to escape captivity and rushes to the party with her friend Jae-ho. Arriving just as Ho-rang collapses, Bo-bae administers CPR, sending a powerful electrical current into him that restarts his heart. However, this heroic act leaves Bo-bae unconscious, and upon waking, she's informed by Ho-rang's doctor that her touch now poses a lethal risk to his newly transplanted artificial heart.

Resolution and a New Beginning

A heartbroken Bo-bae retreats to her parents' home in Dae-jeon, finding that her powers have temporarily subsided. While she can now touch others without harm, she fears their return. Meanwhile, Ho-rang's health crisis leads his grandmother to temporarily cede control of the TS Group to Do-yoon. Ho-rang, determined to reunite with Bo-bae and reclaim his position, travels to Dae-jeon. After winning over Bo-bae's parents with his helpfulness, he convinces Bo-bae to give their relationship another chance. They return to Seoul to confront Do-yoon.

Do-yoon's ambition unravels when he crashes his car while driving drunk, leading to another scandal. This incident prompts Ho-rang's grandmother to reinstate him as the chaebol heir. She also accepts Bo-bae, who impresses her with her kindness. Bo-bae's career also resumes as her new drama, The Bodyguard in My Heart, begins filming, with her friend Cho Seo-jeong directing and actor Ji Eun-ho, who had previously confessed his feelings for Bo-bae, making a cameo.

In the series' final moments, Bo-bae's powers have not returned. She and Ho-rang share a tender moment watching the premiere of her drama, which mirrors their own love story. Ho-rang is moved to tears as the show credits reveal Na Bo-bae's name, signifying a hopeful future for the couple.
