Suzanne Slaughter, a prominent figure in the Australian heavy metal scene known as the 'Queen of Australian Black Metal,' has died at the age of 46. She passed away on October 18 due to complications following surgery, according to her record label, Utopia Records.

Born Suzanne Elizabeth Britcher, Slaughter died at an Adelaide hospital surrounded by friends and family. She had been managing a private chronic medical condition that led to the surgery.

Utopia Records announced her death last week, noting that a memorial service was planned for October 31, coinciding with Halloween. The label described Slaughter as "a strong, beautiful and fiercely independent woman" with resilience, intelligence, creativity, and a sharp sense of humor. They also highlighted her remarkable strength of spirit, character, and optimism despite lifelong medical challenges, calling her "an absolute force of nature."

Friends and fans shared their condolences, remembering Slaughter as a unique person who was passionate about music and always had time for others. Many recalled her as one of the most genuine people they had met and acknowledged her significant contributions to the music community. Some noted her past involvement in organizing events and running a store in Newtown.

Her long-time partner, Adrian Henderson, told Adelaide Now that Slaughter was a "strong and determined" individual who left a lasting impression. He added that she was active in the underground music, gothic, and film scenes, and "lived life to the fullest wherever and however she could."

A celebration of life was scheduled to take place on October 31 at the Fullarton Park Community Centre.
