Strictly Viewers Praise Emma Willis and Johannes Radebe's Presenting Duo
Fans also suggest Josh Widdicombe has found his niche in the show's reporting team.
Strictly Come Dancing viewers have expressed strong approval for the presenting team-up of Emma Willis and Johannes Radebe, with many fans calling for the duo to continue working together. The positive reactions emerged following the show's first elimination on Sunday night.
Fans took to social media platform X to share their enthusiasm for Willis and Radebe's on-screen chemistry. Comments included "Emma and Johannes presenting together this is much better it’s not hard," and "Oh emma and johannes together! they’ve realised that’s how it should be."
Another viewer wrote, "Surely the BBC can see that Emma and Johannes are great together tonight." The pair were initially tasked with discussing the dances with the judges.
Later in the show, Josh Widdicombe joined Radebe to chat with the celebrity contestants after Willis moved to the dance floor to reveal the public vote results. This shift also garnered praise, with viewers suggesting Widdicombe appeared more comfortable and natural in the upstairs reporting role.
Comments regarding Widdicombe's placement included: "Now can we move Josh upstairs plz he works much better up their with Johannes," and "Dare I say Josh felt mare natural upstairs being a bit more off the cuff with the saved couples in the result show?"
Additionally, some viewers felt Willis was more effective handling the results segment independently, with one commenter stating, "Emma is much better doing the results on her own while Josh & JoJo are upstairs chatting with the celebrities."
This past week also marked the first elimination of the season, with celebrity hairdresser Chris Appleton being sent home. Appleton, 43, found himself in the dance-off against actress Jaime Winstone, 41, after receiving the lowest number of public votes. The judges unanimously voted to save Winstone following their respective cha-cha performances.
Appleton's cha-cha, performed to "Pretty Woman" during Movies Week, received criticism from judges Craig Revel-Horwood and Motsi Mabuse for technical issues, though Mabuse noted improvement. Anton Du Beke described the performance as "another level" despite acknowledging that the dancing itself wasn't entirely polished. Appleton's routine earned 17 points from the judges.
Despite his nerves, Appleton stated he was enjoying the experience and discovering a new aspect of himself through dancing. The show's Movie Week episode reportedly peaked at 5.6 million viewers, with a spokesperson noting that overnight ratings do not capture the full viewing picture in an on-demand world.
The remaining 14 couples are scheduled to return to the dancefloor next Saturday at 6:15 p.m.
