Strictly Viewers Advocate for Emma Willis and Johannes Radebe Hosting Partnership
Fans express approval of new presenting dynamics and suggest Josh Widdicombe found a more comfortable role.
Following the first elimination of the season, "Strictly Come Dancing" viewers have voiced their strong approval for a potential hosting pairing of Emma Willis and Johannes Radebe. Many fans took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express their satisfaction with the duo's on-screen chemistry during the show's first elimination broadcast.
Fans specifically praised Willis and Radebe, with comments such as "Emma and Johannes presenting together this is much better it’s not hard" and "Oh emma and johannes together! they’ve realised that’s how it should be." The sentiment suggested that viewers found their collaboration more engaging than previous arrangements.
During the broadcast, Willis initially presented alongside Radebe, discussing the previous night's dances with the judges. Later, Willis moved to the dance floor to reveal the results, with Josh Widdicombe joining Radebe upstairs to interact with the celebrity contestants. This shift in roles also garnered positive reactions from the audience.
Viewers commented that Widdicombe appeared more at ease and natural in the upstairs presenting role. "Now can we move Josh upstairs plz he works much better up their with Johannes," one viewer wrote. Another suggested, "Dare I say Josh felt mare natural upstairs being a bit more off the cuff with the saved couples in the result show?" The consensus among these comments indicated a preference for Widdicombe engaging in more improvised conversations with the couples.
This season's early weeks saw significant scrutiny of the new hosting team, including Willis, Radebe, and Widdicombe, who took over from long-time presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman. The recent fan feedback suggests a growing acceptance and preference for the current setup.
In the first elimination of the series, hair stylist Chris Appleton, 43, was voted off the show. Appleton competed in the dance-off against actress Jaime Winstone, 41, after they received the fewest public votes. The judging panel unanimously chose to save Winstone, leading to Appleton's departure. His cha cha performance, set to "Pretty Woman," earned a total of 17 points from the judges, with Craig Revel-Horwood noting a perceived lack of connection between his upper body and legs. Despite this, judges Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke noted improvements in his performance.
"Strictly Come Dancing" reported that its Movie Week broadcast was the most-watched program of the night, peaking at 5.6 million viewers. The remaining 14 couples are set to compete next week. The show continues on Saturday at 6:15 PM.
