Strictly Come Dancing 'Haunted,' Claims Ghost Hunter Yvette Fielding

TV ghost hunter Yvette Fielding has claimed that the dressing rooms at Elstree Studios, home to the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing, are 'haunted.' The studios also host other productions, including EastEnders and ITV's The Chase.

Fielding stated that the popular dance competition is home to 'quite a few ghosts.' She explained that locations with a history or on historically significant land can be prone to paranormal activity under the right conditions. "Anywhere that has a history, or even the land that the building or property is on, can be, in the right conditions, cause paranormal activity to happen," Fielding said in an interview with the Daily Mail.

She noted that individuals who have worked on Strictly have reported unexplained occurrences, such as dressing room items being moved. Fielding suggested that the dressing rooms might be the same ones associated with the Big Brother set, which is also rumored to be haunted.

"There are quite a few ghosts; anywhere where people are, anywhere where you meet electricity, we emit energy," Fielding added. She expressed a desire to investigate the studios further when the premises are empty and the lights are off.

Fielding, the co-creator and host of the ghost-hunting series Most Haunted, has featured numerous celebrities on her show. She recalled an episode involving members of the group Girls Aloud in 2006, where some participants became visibly distressed. "They had to go and sit with the psychologist because she was so freaked out by what was happening, not just to us, but to the crew as well, which was incredible," she said.

Fielding named the late Paul O'Grady as a favorite guest, recalling his strong support for Most Haunted and his encouragement when she received negative comments about the show. O'Grady, who died in March 2023, participated in several Most Haunted Live! events.

In separate work, Fielding has been investigating energy consumption for a Halloween campaign by Smart Energy GB, focusing on invisible energy drains affecting small businesses. She visited an independent London bookshop to identify everyday factors contributing to increased utility bills. According to a poll for the campaign, 80 percent of small business owners feel 'haunted' by unseen energy usage, with only 17 percent knowing exactly how much energy is being consumed after hours. However, 91 percent of business owners with smart meters reported that the devices have helped them save money on energy costs.

"From running my own business, I understand how important it is to closely monitor each and every running cost," Fielding commented. "Ahead of winter, I’d encourage all small business owners to spend a bit of time investigating their outgoings and thinking about what they could do to save some cash."

Victoria Bacon, director at Smart Energy GB, stated that smart meters can provide visibility into energy usage, helping business owners identify and address hidden costs. Smart Energy GB is a non-profit organization that educates businesses and households about the benefits of smart meters.
