Stealers Wheel Musician Joe Egan Left £4 Million Estate

Late Scottish musician Joe Egan, best known for co-writing the hit song "Stuck in the Middle With You" with Gerry Rafferty, left a fortune of nearly £4 million to his family. The song, which achieved chart success in both the UK and the United States, was later famously featured in Quentin Tarantino's 1992 film "Reservoir Dogs."

Egan, who passed away in 2024 at the age of 77, amassed an estate valued at £3,830,996. According to probate papers, his wealth included approximately £2.8 million in assets in Scotland and an additional £1 million in England. His fortune comprised a £1.5 million share in his publishing business, Baby Bun Music Ltd, cash in bank accounts, and a 2012 Astra car valued at £12,000.

Egan's will stipulated that his estate should be passed on to his wife, Sylvia. He and Rafferty, both originally from Paisley, Renfrewshire, met as teenagers and attended St Mirin's Academy. After Stealers Wheel disbanded in 1975 due to creative differences, Egan pursued a solo career before retiring from music in the 1990s to manage his publishing business.

Following Rafferty's death in 2011, Egan reflected on their relationship, stating that despite occasional fallouts during their intense collaboration, they remained in touch and would often reminisce about their early days together.

Their biggest hit, Stuck in the Middle With You, was given a new lease of life when it featured in Reservoir Dogs in 1992

"Stuck in the Middle With You," released in 1973, became a significant hit, selling over one million copies. The song gained renewed popularity when it was featured in a memorable scene in Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs." Rafferty himself went on to achieve considerable solo success, with albums like "City to City" and "Night Owl," and the hit single "Baker Street."
