Television's brightest stars are gathering at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles for the 78th Emmy Awards, honoring the best of the small screen. Mariska Hargitay is set to host the event for the first time, celebrating nominated talent from acclaimed series such as "The Pitt" and "Widow's Bay."

Early arrivals on the red carpet included "Dancing with the Stars" judge Derek Hough and NSYNC member Lance Bass. The event marks a celebration of the year's most impactful television programming.

Noah Wyle is a contender for outstanding lead actor in a drama series, while his co-stars Katherine LaNasa, Taylor Dearden, and Fiona Dourif are nominated in the supporting actress category.

Following closely is HBO Max's "Hacks," with 24 nominations, including for outstanding comedy series, directing, and writing. Jean Smart is nominated for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series, and "Hacks" co-stars Hannah Einbinder and Megan Stalter are competing in the supporting actress category.

The list of presenters for the evening includes notable names such as Florence Pugh, Zendaya, and Sarah Michelle Gellar, among many others.

Changes to Telecast Categories

In an effort to "flex more creativity into the show," the Television Academy announced in July that several categories will not be presented during the live telecast. Awards for variety series writing, and limited series or movie categories for supporting actor, actress, directing, and writing, have been moved to the Creative Arts Emmys weekend. Television Academy chair Chris Abrego stated that this move aims to refresh the broadcast format.
