The Metropolitan Opera's opening night gala for its new production, “Lincoln in the Bardo,” drew a constellation of stars to its Lincoln Center venue on Monday. Celebrities, including Dua Lipa and Amy Poehler, graced the red carpet, dressed in formal attire for the occasion.
The opera, which is based on George Saunders’ 2017 novel of the same name, centers on President Lincoln's experience of grief over the loss of his young son, Willie, over the course of a single night.
Among the notable attendees were singer Dua Lipa, comedian Amy Poehler, actors Kate Walsh and Gina Gershon, and performers Matt Rogers, Bowen Yang, Julio Torres, Dev Hynes, Bruna Petrillo, and Anthony Roth Costanzo. The gala also included the Saunders family, with George Saunders, author of the source material, present alongside Alena Saunders, Paula Saunders, and Caitlin Saunders.
The production's creative team was also in attendance, including composer Missy Mazzoli and librettist Royce Vavrek, as well as conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin and Pierre Tourville.
The event marked a high-profile opening for the new operatic adaptation, bringing together figures from the worlds of music, film, television, and literature.
