Slade Star Dave Hill Celebrates Wolverhampton Roots in Debut Solo Album

Dave Hill, the iconic guitarist from the glam rock band Slade, has released his debut solo album, "The One and Only," celebrating his hometown of Wolverhampton and weaving together personal reflections.

The album's sound is a fusion of rock, blues, and folk, aiming to capture the raw energy of Hill's live performances while exploring his personal narrative. This includes his experiences with mental health challenges and the profound impact of the Covid-19 lockdowns.

"When I started to write, I knew when something was good - it would almost make me cry," the 80-year-old musician shared.

Hill revealed that he was encouraged to pursue solo songwriting by his close friend, Noddy Holder, also a former member of Slade. "Wolverhampton was where I lived. [I remember] the council estate and the cinema and growing up in the days when Doris Day was in the charts. I loved her. I used to watch Flash Gordon at the cinema," Hill recalled, reflecting on his formative years in the city.

For "The One and Only," Hill collaborated with American country music artist John Berry. The album's themes are deeply rooted in Hill's life experiences and his connection to Wolverhampton.
