Sir David Attenborough Returns for 'Blue Planet III' Exploring Ocean Depths

Sir David Attenborough is set to narrate "Blue Planet III," a new six-part series from the BBC Natural History Unit that ventures into the deepest and least understood parts of the world's oceans. The broadcaster, who recently passed his 100th birthday, described the new installment as an opportunity to uncover marine life that is "even more precious than we ever realised."

Filming for the series took nearly four years, and it arrives approximately 25 years after the premiere of the original "Blue Planet" series. At a recent launch event, Attenborough expressed his pride and delight in being associated with the project, noting the surprise of narrating a third series in his centennial year.

The production utilizes advanced technology, including remote underwater cameras, drones, and manned submersibles, to capture footage of newly discovered animal behaviors and environments. The series will explore diverse marine ecosystems, from vibrant coral reefs and tropical islands to the profound darkness of the deep sea.

An extended trailer for "Blue Planet III" features Attenborough remarking on the ocean as an "endlessly fascinating place." He promises viewers will discover life that is "more surprising, more intelligent, and even more precious than we ever realised," emphasizing the critical importance of understanding our relationship with the ocean.

The series' original score is a collaboration between Hans Zimmer and Bleeding Fingers Music. Zimmer, who also contributed to "Blue Planet II," called the series the "most important work" he has undertaken, highlighting its power to foster love and appreciation for the natural world.

"Into The Deep (Seas Cry)," an original song for the series, was co-written by Jade Thirlwall, a member of the pop group Little Mix. Thirlwall, a self-proclaimed fan of the franchise, described the opportunity to contribute as a "real privilege."

The premiere launch event for "Blue Planet III" was held at London's Piccadilly Circus, transforming its iconic digital displays with footage from the new series.
