Simon Cowell Out of Britain's Got Talent Filming Due to Back Surgery

Simon Cowell has withdrawn from filming the upcoming season of Britain's Got Talent due to recovery from back surgery. The music mogul, 66, will miss auditions scheduled for next month in Blackpool.

ITV is actively searching for a temporary judge to join fellow panelists Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon, as well as guest judge KSI, for the auditions. A male comedian is reportedly being considered for the role. The production company Fremantle plans to shift some filming days to January to allow Cowell to participate as head judge upon his recovery.

Cowell expressed his disappointment at missing the initial filming but emphasized the importance of rest for a full recovery. He confirmed that the surgery was routine and that a guest judge would be brought in to entertain the audience.

This is not Cowell's first significant back injury. In 2020, he broke his back after being thrown from an electric bike at his home in Malibu, California. The accident required extensive surgery, including the insertion of a metal rod to stabilize his spine. Cowell has since overhauled his lifestyle, losing weight and reducing his smoking habit.

He previously revealed that his surgeon had warned him he might never walk again following the 2020 accident. Cowell described the incident as a wake-up call, leading him to prioritize his health and family life, including his partner Lauren Silverman and their son Eric. He has also adjusted his work schedule, refusing to work past 6 p.m. or on his days off.
