Sienna Miller and Dominic West Star in 'War,' a Divisive Divorce Drama
The new Sky Original series 'War' pits Sienna Miller and Dominic West against each other in a high-stakes legal and personal battle.
The new Sky Original drama 'War' features Sienna Miller as Carla, a Hollywood A-lister, and Dominic West as Morgan, her tech billionaire husband. The series delves into their acrimonious divorce, characterized by a 'red-blooded, rip-roaring battle of the sexes,' according to TV critic Christopher Stevens.
Carla, suspecting infidelity, orchestrates a honeytrap for Morgan. After an awards ceremony, he succumbs to temptation with a woman orchestrated by Carla. By morning, Carla has the photographic evidence needed to challenge their prenuptial agreement. She instructs her lawyers to pursue "every f*****g penny he's got."
Beyond the central conflict, the series introduces an ambitious young lawyer, Johnny, played by Archie Renaux. His backstory, detailing his struggle to secure a position at one of the rival law firms after being fired from his waiter job, is described as a repetitive element that could have been condensed.
The drama explores the less-than-idealistic side of the legal profession, contrasting with romanticized portrayals in shows like 'The Split.' In 'War,' lawyers are depicted as "vultures," with one senior lawyer instructing her team to "eradicate all evidence of collusion" and create a false paper trail. Another lawyer, Serena, dismisses the notion of a "moral high ground," stating, "We're lawyers, it's not what we're set up for."
Stevens notes that the series includes "beautifully observed asides," such as Carla using a disguise to go incognito in Paris by donning "the red baseball cap of invisibility." The senior lawyers in the series are portrayed with "gigantic egos," frequently emphasizing their own talent and success.
'War' received a four-star rating from Christopher Stevens, who called the drama "delicious" and packed with a "punch."
