Si King Reflects on Grief and Finding New Love After Dave Myers' Death

Hairy Bikers star Si King is still navigating the grief of losing his best friend and professional partner, Dave Myers, two years after Myers' death.

Meyers died in February 2024 at the age of 66, following a two-year battle with cancer that began in May 2022. In a recent interview on Davina McCall's Begin Again podcast, King, 59, spoke candidly about his anger and disbelief surrounding Myers' diagnosis and passing.

"I'm still pretty angry about him buggering off really," King admitted, describing grief as a nuanced experience. He acknowledged that while he is not typically an angry person, he struggles with these feelings related to his friend's absence. King noted that his personal journey through Myers' illness was intensely private and different from what others observed.

Recalling the moment Myers told him about his cancer diagnosis, King described a sense of disbelief. "I was on the A1 and he went, 'Are you on your own?' And I said, 'Uh yeah, yeah'. And he said, 'I've got I've got cancer, King'," King recounted. He remembered Myers' immediate thought being about filming between chemotherapy sessions, while King was focused on the emotional impact.

King explained that his role as a friend was to support Myers and his family in their fight against cancer. "It didn't matter what I thought or what route that I personally would have taken. It was about supporting them in the best way that I could," he said.

The enduring partnership of the Hairy Bikers, which spanned many years, has made continuing without Myers a profound adjustment. King mentioned their practice of always considering each other, highlighting the significant shift in their dynamic.

More recently, King revealed that he has found new love after his period of loss. He had previously told The Sunday Times magazine that after Myers' death, he felt isolated and considered withdrawing from public life. However, King has now found a connection with a woman named Milly, about whom he has shared limited details but described as "a very special lady."

"I'm very happy. It's been wonderful and continues to be wonderful," King shared, adding that his sons and ex-wife Jane are also pleased for him. King was married to Jane Dodd for 27 years before their separation in 2016, a split he attributed to the demands and prolonged absences caused by his career. The couple have three sons: Alex, James, and Dylan.

Reflecting on his past, King acknowledged that he was not always present in his home life due to his career commitments. He stated, "I'm all right, I mean look, it's challenging and I continue to work probably too hard, but I kind of don't know what else to do."
