Saoirse Ronan Downplays James Bond Rumors for Jack Lowden

Saoirse Ronan has dismissed rumors that her husband, Jack Lowden, is in line to become the next James Bond, stating that the topic is not being discussed in their home.

Ronan's comments come after Gary Oldman, Lowden's co-star in "Slow Horses," suggested that Lowden had been chosen for the iconic role. Oldman, 68, had publicly stated that Lowden had been selected and that the public would learn the news soon, adding that he was hopeful for the actor.

However, Ronan, 36, told the Associated Press that she and Lowden, with whom she welcomed their first child in September 2025, have not spoken about the Bond role. "I mean, well Gary Oldman thinks he's James Bond, which is its own thing," Ronan said. "I mean, we're kind of getting on with our life to be honest, we have plenty of other things to be dealing with, so yeah, it's not really a subject that's coming up in our house to be honest."

She added that their focus is on everyday life, such as walking the dog and making dinner. "Jack's on Slow Horses right now, and he's having a good time on that," she noted.

The search for a new James Bond has been ongoing since Daniel Craig's departure. Lowden, 36, has been frequently mentioned as a contender, with producers reportedly "strongly considering" him. Other actors rumored to be on the shortlist include Callum Turner, Harris Dickinson, Jack Barton, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

In a statement earlier this year, Amazon MGM Studios confirmed that "The search for the next James Bond is underway." They added that while they would not comment on specific details during the casting process, more news would be shared with fans when appropriate.

Speculation intensified after Amazon MGM Studios announced that auditions were proceeding. Casting director Nina Gold and director Denis Villeneuve are reportedly leading the selection process.

Richard Osman, a presenter, also recently hinted that he had been told who the next Bond might be, mentioning Lowden's name. "It is definitely not a 'he's definitely got it' thing. He is definitely being strongly considered," Osman said on his podcast "The Rest Is Entertainment." He praised Lowden as a "brilliant actor" with the potential for humor and action, suggesting he has "real Daniel Craig energy."

Lowden's co-star Oldman had previously appeared to let slip details about the casting on Canada's "The Morning Show." "It's been rumored that he's on the shortlist," Oldman stated. "We're going to find out pretty soon, aren't we? Because they have picked him."

Oldman clarified, "They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet."

Lowden, who also appeared in Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk," is slated to star as Mr. Darcy in an upcoming Netflix adaptation of "Pride and Prejudice."
