Sabrina Carpenter Honors Madonna with VMAs Performance and Fashion Choices

Sabrina Carpenter kicked off the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards alongside Madonna with a performance of their nominated song, “Bring Your Love.” Carpenter, who opted to skip the red carpet, made a notable fashion statement for the opening number, channeling a 1982 photoshoot of Madonna. Her performance outfit included a black beret, a white button-down shirt worn over a bra, and black sequined boyshorts with suspenders.

Later in the evening, Carpenter changed into a blush-pink Dolce & Gabbana gown for a different look. The dress featured a rose at the bodice and black beaded fringe. She paired this with peep-toe Christian Louboutin stilettos, soft waves, and rosy makeup.

Carpenter and Madonna accepted the award for Best Collaboration for “Bring Your Love.” This is not the first time Carpenter has paid homage to Madonna through her fashion. She previously appeared on the cover of Vogue in March 2025 wearing a cone bra and, for the 2024 VMAs, she wore a vintage Bob Mackie gown that Madonna had previously worn to the 1991 Oscars. In April, Madonna made a surprise appearance during Carpenter's Coachella set, performing their hits together.

Carpenter was nominated for nine awards at the 2026 VMAs, including Artist of the Year, Video of the Year, Best Album, and Song of the Year. Her previous VMAs appearances have also featured notable fashion moments, including a sheer red lace Valentino gown in 2025 and an after-party look in a Bob Mackie dress previously worn by Cher.
