Rose Tattoo Frontman Angry Anderson's Final Tour Plans Revealed After His Death at 79
The iconic Australian rocker had spoken of his final tour as a fitting end to his band's 50-year career shortly before his passing.
Angry Anderson, the frontman of Australian rock band Rose Tattoo, was looking forward to embarking on what he called "one last ride" with his band before his death at the age of 79. The rocker passed away this month, having spoken in an interview about the significance of the band's final tour.
Rose Tattoo had begun a series of global performances in July, but was forced to cancel several dates when Anderson fell ill. In a conversation with German radio presenter Lotto King Karl, Anderson expressed that he felt the farewell tour was a fitting way to conclude the band's 50-year history. "I think it's time, it just really is time, I think," he stated, referring to the band's impending retirement.
Lotto King Karl described Anderson as being in good spirits during their discussion. "This kind-hearted little bloke was full of stories and excitement about the remaining dates of the farewell tour, which he was looking forward to as a fitting end to his career," the presenter told Seven News.
Anderson had been experiencing health issues in recent months. He was hospitalized in August after suffering a cardiac arrest. At the time, Rose Tattoo was in the midst of their "One Last Ride" tour, which had to suspend its European dates due to Anderson's hospitalization. The band had nine remaining shows scheduled, with the tour originally set to conclude in Germany on August 21.
The death of the legendary Australian musician, best known for his work with Rose Tattoo, was announced by his family and bandmates via a social media post. "It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Gary 'Angry' Anderson on the eve of Monday, 21 September 2026, surrounded by his loved ones here in Australia," the Instagram post read.
The statement continued, "Angry was a devoted father, and much-loved member of his friends, bandmates and the wider music and entertainment community. His loss will be deeply felt by all those who knew and loved him both here in Australia and overseas."
The family and band members requested privacy during their time of grief. "We kindly ask that their wishes are respected as they come to terms with this devastating loss and take the time they need to grieve. Gary Stephen Anderson, known as Angry, is survived by his children Roxanne, Galen, and Blaine, with his ex-wife Lindy Michael. His son, Liam, passed away in 2018 at the age of 26.
