The search for this year's iconic Rockefeller Center Christmas tree has concluded with the selection of a 75-year-old Norway spruce from West Edmeston, New York. The towering 76-foot tree is slated to be cut down late next week and transported approximately 200 miles to Manhattan.
Following its arrival, the tree will be decorated with 50,000 multicolored LED lights and crowned with a Swarovski star. The official tree lighting ceremony is scheduled for December 2 and will be broadcast nationally.
The tree will remain on display at Rockefeller Center until January 9. Following its time as a holiday centerpiece, it will be milled into lumber and donated to Habitat for Humanity, continuing its purpose in a new form.
