Robert Pattinson is drawing attention for his latest role, portraying Chris Hansen, the host of the controversial reality television series "To Catch a Predator," in the new film "Primetime." The A24 crime thriller delves into the sting operations conducted by Hansen to expose alleged child abusers, a subject matter Pattinson finds particularly unnerving, especially as a father.

"It's both the most terrifying thing that can happen to you, whether you're a parent, or even if you're not," Pattinson told BBC News at the film's screening at the London Film Festival. He described the premise as "the most unimaginable sin possible."

"To Catch a Predator" aired from 2004 to 2007 and was a significant ratings success. However, it also sparked debate about the ethical boundaries between investigative journalism, law enforcement, and reality television. Pattinson reflected on the show's complex legacy, noting how it offered a seemingly quick solution to child abuse, which, while correct in principle, also created "incredibly powerful TV" that veered into "dicey territory."

Pattinson, who has had a prolific year with roles in "The Drama" and "The Odyssey," has previously been recognized for his roles as Cedric Diggory in the "Harry Potter" series and Edward Cullen in "Twilight." His recent work spans major blockbusters like "Tenet" and independent films, with "Dune: Part Three" and "The Batman Part II" also in his upcoming slate.

Reports indicate that production on "The Batman Part II" has been paused, though Pattinson confirmed work is ongoing. Amidst his busy schedule and critically acclaimed performances, speculation has arisen that "Primetime" could lead to Pattinson's first Oscar nomination.

"I am eternally grateful that I got these jobs," Pattinson stated. "But then [to have] been able to even do them, this is one of the best years of my life."
