Robbie Williams has humorously addressed a viral moment from the World Cup 2026 opening ceremony, where fans speculated a white substance fell from his nose onto his microphone. The singer confirmed on Instagram that the object was a mint that fell from his mouth.
During an interview following his performance at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, viewers noticed something white dislodging from what appeared to be Williams' nostril and falling onto the microphone. He quickly removed it.
Williams, 52, posted a video on Monday, playfully apologizing for the incident. "I would just like to apologize for the object that fell onto the microphone yesterday," he stated in the clip. "It was deeply unprofessional and people worried about me. But it's okay because I had several more." He then opened his mouth to reveal multiple mints.
Williams performed at the opening ceremony alongside Nicole Scherzinger and Laura Pausini. He donned a sequined blue Adidas tracksuit for his performance, with his hairstyle drawing comparisons from fans to Paulie 'Walnuts' Gualtieri, a character from the HBO series The Sopranos. The character was portrayed by Tony Sirico, who passed away in 2022.
FIFA introduced a halftime show for the World Cup final for the first time this year. The event saw Argentina competing against Spain. The closing ceremony was scheduled to feature performances by Coldplay, Post Malone, Tom Cruise, Nicole Scherzinger, IShowSpeed, Jennifer Hudson, Williams, and Laura Pausini.
