RJ Mitte, "Breaking Bad" Star, Dies at 34
Mitte, who played Walter White Jr. and was an advocate for disability rights, died by suicide, according to his co-star Bryan Cranston.
RJ Mitte, an actor known for his role as Walter White Jr. on the acclaimed AMC series "Breaking Bad," has died at the age of 34. His representative confirmed his passing in a statement expressing profound sadness.
Mitte, who lived with cerebral palsy, leveraged his platform to raise awareness about the condition. He portrayed the son of Bryan Cranston's titular character for all five seasons of "Breaking Bad."
Bryan Cranston shared a statement on social media, stating, "I’m in deep despair as I write this tonight. RJ Mitte, my sweet son on Breaking Bad has died." Cranston revealed that Mitte died by suicide. "It is especially devastating to hear that he took his own life," Cranston wrote. "He never - ever - allowed that challenge to be an excuse for anything. He met the demanding shooting schedule head on with great determination."
Cranston recounted that he and Mitte were texting just weeks prior to his death to arrange a lunch, adding, "I don’t know if that lunch would have changed his future… But I do know that I loved him, and thoroughly enjoyed being with him throughout the years on the series, and after the spotlight on Breaking Bad dimmed." He concluded, "I’ll miss you, son."
Mitte's career also included roles in "Switched at Birth," "The Guardians of Justice," and "The Oak Room." Beyond acting, he was an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children's, and served as president of The Mitte Foundation.
In October 2025, Mitte proposed to his girlfriend of five years, Kennedy Suarez, telling People at the time that she was his "everything."
