Rihanna Reveals Staggering Number of Unreleased Songs
The music superstar disclosed that she has approximately 170 unreleased tracks in her archives.
Rihanna has revealed that she has a substantial collection of unreleased music, stating she is currently sitting on approximately 170 songs. The Grammy winner made the disclosure during a TikTok Live session for her beauty brand, Fenty Beauty, on Wednesday.
When asked about her music vault, Rihanna likened it to having multiple storage units, saying, “If there are 10 products in a vault, then I have at least 17 vaults,” equating to 170 songs.
This revelation comes years after her last studio album, "ANTI," was released in January 2016. Her partner, A$AP Rocky, had previously hinted at her continued involvement in music production, telling Jason Lee in an August interview that Rihanna was "in the studio right now" and "cooking."
Rihanna's fanbase, known as the Navy, has been anticipating new music since "ANTI." The singer has previously teased new material, including a reggae-infused album concept dubbed "R9" in 2018. She later told British Vogue in 2020 that she felt "wide open" and "can make anything" she wants, moving beyond genre limitations.
In 2022, she released "Lift Me Up" for the "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" soundtrack and shared a social media teaser for the song. Despite these releases and ongoing hints, a full studio album has yet to materialize.
In conversations with British Vogue in 2023, Rihanna expressed that while she hoped an album would drop that year, she acknowledged the possibility of it never being released. The following year, she told Interview Magazine that her visual ideas were guiding her musical creations. Most recently, she told Harper's Bazaar that her new music would be unexpected and not tailored for commercial radio.
Speculation about her retirement from music has also surfaced, fueled by a 2024 statement where she mentioned that music "got the attention, but God had other plans for me." However, her latest comments suggest a continued, albeit unconventional, artistic exploration.
