Rachel Weisz and Brendan Fraser Reunite for New Mummy Film
The Oscar-winning actors were spotted together on the set of the upcoming sequel, marking their first on-screen reunion in 25 years.
Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz have reunited on the set of a new Mummy film, their first collaboration in 25 years. The actors, who starred as Rick O'Connell and Evelyn Carnahan in the original 1999 action-adventure film, were photographed together in west London filming scenes for the upcoming project.
The sequel, officially titled an Untitled Mummy Project and slated for a 2027 release, sees Weisz reprising her role as Evelyn Carnahan. Her character was notably recast in the 2008 film The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Fraser, who last appeared in the franchise in The Mummy Returns (2001), is also returning to his iconic role. The new film reportedly picks up decades after the events of The Mummy Returns and will ignore the events of Fraser's last appearance.
Weisz, 56, was seen in business attire, while Fraser, 57, sported a casual look with a brown suede jacket and green flannel shirt, embodying his adventurer character. The pair appeared to share a warm greeting as they prepared to film. Although few plot details have been revealed, the film is understood to be set decades after the last installment featuring Weisz.
Original cast members John Hannah, who played Evelyn's brother, and Arnold Vosloo, who portrayed the titular monster, are also set to return. Kevin J. O'Connor, who played the mummy's henchman in the first film, has also been cast, despite his character's demise.
Stephen Sommers, the director of the first two films, has been replaced by the directing duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known for their work on Ready or Not and recent Scream installments. The film is scheduled for release on October 15, 2027, after its release date was moved from May 2028.
Fraser has experienced a career resurgence in recent years, earning an Academy Award for his performance in Darren Aronofsky's The Whale. His recent roles include a part in Steven Soderbergh's crime thriller No Sudden Move and a role as Dwight D. Eisenhower in the World War II film Pressure.
Weisz, who is married to actor Daniel Craig, was also recently seen filming a scene outside the British Museum, which is expected to feature early in the movie. The original The Mummy was praised for the on-screen chemistry between Weisz and Fraser, and it became a cult classic.
