Powderfinger Announces First Tour in 17 Years
The iconic Australian rock band has revealed details of a comeback tour, kicking off next September.
Iconic Australian rock band Powderfinger has announced a comeback tour, their first in 17 years. The Brisbane-based group confirmed their reunion last week and will begin the tour with four dates in their hometown next September.
Following their home city shows, Powderfinger will play an additional 14 concerts across Cairns, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, and Melbourne. All performances are scheduled to take place in a stadium-sized tent. The band stated they are "absolutely ecstatic" to be reuniting and performing together again.
"Over the years there have been tons of suggestions for us to go back on the road but, until now, it never felt quite right or lined up for all of us," the band said in a statement. "We have always been so grateful for the continued support from our long-term fans and over the years we've picked up a lot of new ones who have never seen us play."
The band noted that their music is often connected to treasured memories for fans, expressing a hope to spread more joy and create new memories during the tour. The schedule includes performances exclusively on Friday and Saturday nights, a format also adopted by Oasis during a past world tour. No international dates have been announced yet.
During their career, Powderfinger released seven studio albums. Their 2000 album Odyssey Number Five was voted the best Australian album of all time by listeners of Triple J, an Australian Broadcasting Corporation music station, in 2011. The station also ranked the single "My Happiness" sixth on its list of the best Australian songs of all time in 2025. Other well-known hits include "On My Mind," "These Days," and "Sunsets."
Since the band's initial split, frontman Bernard Fanning has pursued a solo career. Bassist John Collins has opened two prominent live music venues in Brisbane.
