Phil Collins Regrets Marriages Falling Apart, Cites Touring Demands

Phil Collins has expressed regret over the dissolution of his three marriages, attributing their failures in part to the demands of his music career, particularly extensive touring with the band Genesis. In a recent appearance on "Piers Morgan Uncensored," the 75-year-old musician discussed how his professional commitments impacted his relationships and his role as a father.

Collins acknowledged that while his marriages did not last, they resulted in his five children, a consequence he balances when reflecting on his regrets. His first marriage to Andrea Bertorelli, from 1975 to 1980, ended as his touring schedule with Genesis intensified. He recalled that the band's extensive travel, including multiple tours across continents in a single year, contributed to his growing apart from his first wife.

He was married to his second wife, Jill Tavelman, from 1984 to 1996, and to Orianne Cevey from 1999 to 2006. Collins stated that he never intended to marry multiple times, noting, "You don't go into life thinking that." Despite the marital challenges, he emphasized his commitment to being present for his children.

His daughter, Lily Collins, who stars in "Emily in Paris," explored her relationship with her father in her 2017 memoir, "Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me." In excerpts, she described confronting sadness and anger over his past absences but ultimately extended forgiveness, noting that there was "still so much time to move forward." The father-daughter duo has since maintained a close relationship, celebrating his 75th birthday together in January. Lily Collins has also expressed gratitude for his unconditional love and support, particularly in her role as a parent to her own child, Tove.
