Paul McCartney's Childhood Home Key Sells for Triple Estimate at Auction

A key to Paul McCartney's childhood home, located at 20 Forthlin Road in Liverpool, has sold for £6,100, tripling its lower estimate at auction. The buyer paid the final price including fees for the item, which is considered a tangible link to the early days of The Beatles. Alongside the key, four autographs from the band, each inscribed to "Kathy" – the fan to whom the key belonged – sold for a total of £5,124.

Chris Albury, director at Dominic Winter Auctioneers, noted that the intense bidding competition reflects the enduring popularity of The Beatles. He highlighted the unique provenance of the items, stating, "What makes these particular pieces so extraordinary is the deeply personal links to the band and to the people and places that formed part of their story." The 20 Forthlin Road key, with its history dating back to 1965, offers a direct connection to McCartney's family home, an address significant in the band's history.

It was in the Liverpool council house at 20 Forthlin Road that Paul McCartney composed some of The Beatles' earliest songs alongside John Lennon. The house is recognized as a significant site in the band's formative years. The auction's success with these Beatles-related artifacts underscores the continued cultural impact and fan interest in the legendary band.
