Patrick Stewart's Son Shares Tribute Following Actor's Death
Daniel Stewart posted a throwback photo of himself and his father, the late actor Patrick Stewart, on social media.
Daniel Stewart, the estranged son of the late British actor Patrick Stewart, has shared a tribute following his father's death. On Thursday evening, Daniel Stewart posted a throwback photograph on X, formerly Twitter, showing him giving his father a piggyback ride. The image, taken in 2001, captures a moment when the two men co-starred in a production of J.B. Priestley’s play “Johnson Over Jordan” in Leeds, England.
Patrick Stewart, known for his roles in "Star Trek" and the "X-Men" film franchise, died on Wednesday at his Los Angeles home. His family described his passing as following a "brief and poignant journey" with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia. He was 86.
Patrick Stewart was married to his first wife, Sheila Falconer, from 1966 to 1990. They had two children: Daniel Stewart, 59, and Sophie Stewart, 54. While Sophie Stewart did not pursue a career in the public eye, Daniel Stewart followed his father into acting, appearing in both British and American productions. He also acted alongside his father on several occasions, including a 1992 episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and the 1993 film "Death Train."
In 2013, Patrick Stewart married his third wife, musician Sunny Ozell. The actor reflected on his relationship with his children in 2023, describing it as “practically non-existent” in his memoir, "Making It So." He told The Irish Independent that he had always put his acting work first, before his family, and that the estrangement caused him significant grief. "There’s not a day that goes by that I’m not pained by the memory of my children, who they were and by a sense of responsibility that they became who they are in part because of me and my influence or lack of influence on them," he stated.
