Paris Hilton Defends Halloween Costumes Amid Narcissism Backlash

Paris Hilton has addressed criticism labeling her a narcissist following backlash over her family's Halloween costumes. The star faced online backlash after posting photos of her family dressed in 'Beauty and the Beast' themed outfits, with her and her husband in prominent roles while their children portrayed supporting characters.

Hilton donned an elaborate princess gown as Belle, while her husband Carter Reum was The Beast. Their son, Phoenix, was dressed as Lumiere, the candelabra, and their daughter, London, was Chip, the teacup.

Some social media users accused Hilton of 'stealing the spotlight' and being a 'narcissist' for dressing as the main character. Comments included sentiments such as "Stealing spotlight from kids is next level narcissistic" and "When do your kids get to be the main character?"

Responding in the comments section of her Instagram post, Hilton stated that the costume choices were based on her children's preferences. "Beauty and the Beast is one of their favorite movies. London said she wanted to dress up as Chip. She said it was her favorite character in the movie," Hilton wrote.

Others defended Hilton, with one user calling the costumes "iconic" and another sarcastically remarking, "This just in: Women who have children are no longer allowed to be princesses." Another commenter suggested that since the children are young, they might not remember the costumes, encouraging Hilton to "enjoy her MILF era to the fullest."

This situation arose amid reports of potential tension between Hilton and Kim Kardashian. According to biographer Jonathan Van Meter, Hilton reportedly canceled an interview multiple times concerning Kardashian for his new book, "Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created the Future," allegedly upsetting Kardashian. Van Meter noted that Hilton's publicist required the interview to be scheduled, which he found unusual compared to arrangements with other subjects.
