Paramount Pictures to Adapt Cyberpunk 2077 into Live-Action Film

Paramount Pictures is developing a live-action film adaptation of the popular video game Cyberpunk 2077. The studio is collaborating with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, known for his work on the Transformers franchise, and the game's developer, CD Projekt Red (CDPR).

CDPR's joint-chief executive Michał Nowakowski expressed excitement about the partnership, stating that Paramount shares the company's creative ambitions for the Cyberpunk franchise. Specific details regarding the film's plot, casting, and release date have not yet been announced.

Despite a challenging launch in 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 has achieved significant commercial success, selling over 40 million copies worldwide. The game features Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand, a terrorist whose consciousness is stored in the mind of the main character, V. The game is set in Night City, a dystopian metropolis in California, where players navigate a conspiracy involving the Arasaka megacorporation.

CDPR also released an expansion, Phantom Liberty, in 2023, which featured Idris Elba and sold more than 15 million copies. The Cyberpunk universe has already been adapted into the animated series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, with a second season planned for release on Netflix. Netflix also produces The Witcher, based on CDPR's fantasy role-playing game series, which saw a cast change with Liam Hemsworth replacing Henry Cavill for its fourth season.
