The upcoming thriller "Reset," slated to star Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Orlando Bloom, is facing significant disruption just before its scheduled production start. Reports indicate that Bloom has exited the project, prompting a scramble to reorganize the film.
According to a source cited by Page Six Hollywood, Bloom's alleged departure has left the production "scrambling to reorganize just before filming." However, other accounts suggest the situation is more complex.
A source familiar with the film stated that Bloom's exit may be part of a broader production shift triggered by the replacement of the original director. This insider indicated that "The director was replaced too close to the start of production," and coupled with "ongoing script changes, there was not sufficient time to confidently shoot the film." This account suggests that production might be postponed to a later date, possibly next year, with Bloom potentially still involved.
When "Reset" was initially announced in May, Deadline reported that Matt Smukler was attached to direct, with production planned to commence in August. As of Tuesday, however, IMDb lists James Madigan as the director. Madigan has previous visual effects credits on films such as "Iron Man 2" and "The Da Vinci Code."
Another source close to the production told The Post that filmmakers are working quickly to determine the next steps for "Reset," including whether Bloom's role can be recast without further impacting the schedule. Reps for Bloom and Chopra Jonas, as well as a producer from Fratricidal Films, have been contacted for comment. A representative for Fortitude International, the film's financier, did not immediately respond.
TMZ also reported Bloom's last-minute exit, noting that three actors are reportedly being considered for the role. Chopra Jonas remains attached to the project.
The film's original director, Smukler, had commented on the casting in May, stating, "I was looking for a pairing where attraction and mistrust could effortlessly coexist. Priyanka and Orlando have this uncanny ability to make you believe both at once. Their chemistry is undeniable."
Bloom's recent acting credits include the 2024 film "The Cut," and he has two other projects in development: "Wizards," co-starring Pete Davidson, and Werner Herzog's "Bucking Fastard" with Kate and Rooney Mara.
