Noel Gallagher's Oasis Guitar Sells for Record Auction Price
An acoustic guitar played by Noel Gallagher during Oasis's 1996 MTV Unplugged performance fetched £226,800 at auction, setting a new record for an Oasis acoustic guitar.
An acoustic guitar played by Noel Gallagher at Oasis's 1996 MTV Unplugged concert, and subsequently signed by him, has been sold at auction for £226,800. The sale established a new "world record" for an Oasis acoustic guitar, according to auction house Propstore.
The guitar was played by Gallagher during the iconic 1996 performance at London's Royal Albert Hall for MTV Unplugged. The auction also saw other notable music memorabilia achieve high prices.
A Yamaha C3 Grand Piano, used by Freddie Mercury to compose the Queen song "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," sold for £81,900. This instrument had been expected to fetch at least £200,000.
Earlier in the auction, a notebook containing handwritten lyrics and notes from Freddie Mercury's "Mr. Bad Guy" recording sessions sold for £277,200, making it the highest-selling lot on the first day of Propstore's Music Live Auction.
Mark Hochman, Propstore's music specialist, commented on the significance of the sales, stating, "Setting a world record with Noel Gallagher's MTV Unplugged guitar is a fantastic result and a testament to the lasting connection fans have with Oasis." He added, "These results show how much collectors value pieces with a personal connection to the artists and their music."
