Nobel Prize in Literature Set to Be Awarded Thursday
The Swedish Academy will announce the recipient of the prestigious literary award in Stockholm.
The Swedish Academy is scheduled to announce the winner of the Nobel Prize in literature on Thursday in Stockholm. Last year's award recognized Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai for his novels that explore a bleak worldview with dark humor, which the judges noted uphold the power of art amidst "apocalyptic terror."
This announcement follows the recent awarding of three science-related Nobel Prizes. The prize in physiology or medicine was awarded to three scientists for developing a tool that uses light to study brain function. The physics prize honored a scientist for work on demystifying a rare group of neutrinos, and the chemistry prize recognized two scientists for their research into molecular mirror images, a discovery crucial for drug development.
The week of Nobel announcements will conclude with the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, followed by the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences on Monday.
Each Nobel Prize winner this year will receive 12 million Swedish kronor, equivalent to approximately $1.2 million, regardless of whether the award is given to an individual, a small group, or an organization.
