Veteran food writer and television personality Nigella Lawson has been announced as the new judge for the latest season of 'The Great British Baking Show', replacing long-time panelist Prue Leith.
Nigella Lawson, the acclaimed British food writer and television personality, has stepped into the iconic tent as a judge for the latest season of The Great British Baking Show. She replaces Dame Prue Leith, who announced her departure from the popular cooking competition earlier this year.
Leith, 86, stated that she decided to step down to spend more time enjoying her garden and pursuing other endeavors. "(I’m 86 for goodness sake!), there’s so much I’d like to do, not least spend summers enjoying my garden," Leith said in an Instagram post. "Whoever joins the team, I’m sure they’ll love it as much as I have. I feel very lucky to have been part of it."
Lawson, known for her approachable style and popular cookbooks and television series, confirmed her new role in January, expressing both excitement and a touch of apprehension. "It is daunting to be following in the footsteps of Prue Leith and Mary Berry before her," Lawson stated, "before admitting she was 'thrilled to be joining the team.'
Lawson, 66, brings a wealth of experience to the judging panel. She first gained prominence in 1999 with her groundbreaking series Nigella Bites, which offered a fresh perspective on home cooking and established her as an international lifestyle expert. Her warm and unfussy approach is seen as a natural fit for the cozy atmosphere of the Bake Off tent.
Fans can catch the new season, featuring Lawson alongside judges Paul Hollywood and hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding, on Netflix. New episodes are set to be released weekly throughout the fall.
