Nicole Kidman has recounted that she received warnings about the potential negative impact marrying her first husband, Tom Cruise, could have on her career. At 23 years old, Kidman wed Cruise in 1990, the same year she achieved a significant breakthrough in her acting career by starring alongside him in "Days of Thunder." At the time, Cruise, then 28, was already an established global movie star with leading roles in films such as "Top Gun," "Risky Business," "Born on the Fourth of July," "The Color of Money," and "Rain Man."
Kidman, now 59, stated that she was informed her professional trajectory might be eclipsed due to her association with a celebrity of Cruise's stature. "I’m like: 'I don’t care. I’m in love. I want to be married.' And then I was his 'wife' and they were like: 'See, we told you,'" she told British Vogue.
She added, "I’m like: 'So what? I wasn’t meant to marry the man I love? Of course I’ll throw my career away. I don’t care,"' the Oscar-winning actress shared.

Kidman and Cruise were married for over a decade and adopted two children, Isabella, 33, and Connor, 31, before their separation in 2001. Cruise was Kidman's first husband. He was previously married to actress Mimi Rogers, known for "The Mirror Has Two Faces," who introduced him to Scientology.
