Nicole Kidman is renting a stately Hampstead mansion once owned by pop star Boy George at a reported cost of £65,000 a month while she shoots in the United Kingdom, and her husband, musician Keith Urban, has not been staying with her, British tabloid reports said.
According to Woman’s Day and coverage reproduced by the Daily Mail, the 58-year-old actress took the property while filming the Practical Magic sequel in the UK; filming has since wrapped. The house is described in reports as having five bedrooms and five bathrooms, a cinema, a roof terrace and a meditation room, and sources told the publications that neighbours have noticed Kidman spending extended periods at the residence while Urban is touring.
The reports said Urban was not present because he is on the High and Alive tour across the United States and Canada, with dates running into mid-October. An unnamed insider quoted by Woman’s Day said the couple, married 19 years, have spent more time apart in recent months than they previously did and that the actress has been "getting comfortable in a dream home in London." The same source attributed the increased time apart in part to the death of Kidman’s mother last September. The couple has not publicly commented on their living arrangements.
The property’s history is well documented in British media. Built in 1868 for engineer and developer Edward Gotto, the house was later subdivided into multiple properties before being brought back together during an extensive renovation by Boy George (George O’Dowd). British reports note the home became notorious after the 1986 death of musician Michael Rudetsky in a living room at the house; Boy George continued to occupy the property until listing it for sale in 2022. Neighbouring purchases and renovations, including a 2015 purchase of the adjacent property by singer Sam Smith, were part of a multi-year project that expanded the house’s footprint and prompted planning disputes with Camden Council over a glazed extension and tree removal, the reports said.
The property has also featured on television, appearing on Channel 4’s Selling Super Houses in 2023, according to coverage.
Daily Mail reporting and Woman’s Day attributed the monthly rental figure and many of the location and amenity details to sources close to the property market and neighbourhood. The publications reported some neighbours were surprised by Kidman’s extended stays, but offered no independent confirmation of private arrangements between the actress and her husband.
Kidman’s presence in London was tied to production on the Practical Magic sequel; representatives for the film’s production and for Kidman and Urban did not immediately respond to requests for comment through normal press channels. Urban’s touring schedule is publicly listed by his promoter and shows North American dates through mid-October.
The reports reflect how high-profile property histories and celebrity movements often draw local attention, but they rely primarily on anonymous sourcing and tabloid coverage for personal details about the couple’s day-to-day arrangements.
