New Beatles Attraction to Open in Liverpool in 2028

Liverpool, the birthplace of The Beatles, is slated to unveil a significant new visitor attraction in 2028 dedicated to the iconic band.

Apple Corps Ltd., the company managing The Beatles' business interests, announced plans Tuesday for an expanded version of The Beatles Story museum. The new venue will be located in the former St. John’s Market, a 100,000-square-foot site opposite Liverpool's Lime Street train station. This move is intended to create a tourist destination comparable to Graceland or Dollywood.

The attraction is scheduled to open shortly after the release of a quartet of feature films directed by Sam Mendes, which focus on the lives of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. These films are anticipated to generate a renewed global interest in the band.

The new Beatles experience will utilize immersive technology, original artifacts, and reconstructed sets to guide visitors through the band's history. This will include recreations of settings such as the Cavern Club in Liverpool, Abbey Road studios in London, and Shea Stadium, the site of their 1965 performance. The nearby St Johns Beacon tower will be re-imagined as an attraction inspired by the band's song and film "Yellow Submarine," offering city views.

Apple Corps CEO Tom Greene stated that the new center would be a "world class destination for fans" in the city where The Beatles' story began. A portion of the ticket revenue will be donated to a Liverpool-based charity supporting emerging artists.

Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, the two surviving members of the band, have welcomed the development. McCartney expressed his eagerness for fans to "step into our story and share the experience," while Starr emphasized Liverpool's enduring status as "music city."

The announcement follows another planned Beatles fan experience set to open in late 2027 at the band's former London headquarters at 3 Savile Row. The upcoming biopic films, starring Harris Dickinson as Lennon, Joseph Quinn as Harrison, Paul Mescal as McCartney, and Barry Keoghan as Starr, are all slated for release in April 2028.

Beatles tourism has already played a role in transforming Liverpool into a cultural destination. Experts suggest the combination of the films and new attractions could significantly boost the number of visitors, though some caution about the potential for over-commercialization. A Beatles expert from the University of Liverpool noted the "rich story" of the band's relationship with the city that is still being explored.
