Netflix's "East of Eden" Limited Series: Episode Count and Season 2 Prospects
Zoe Kazan's adaptation of John Steinbeck's novel concludes its run after seven episodes, with no plans for further seasons.
Netflix's new limited series adaptation of John Steinbeck's classic novel "East of Eden" consists of seven episodes. The series, created and written by Zoe Kazan, stars Florence Pugh as Cathy Ames, alongside Christopher Abbott and Mike Faist as brothers Adam and Charles Trask.
Kazan, whose grandfather Elia Kazan directed the 1955 film adaptation of the novel starring James Dean, told Tudum that her adaptation aimed to explore the full epic story, diverging from the more focused scope of her grandfather's film. Decider has recommended the series, calling it "Netflix's latest major limited series powerhouse."
The cast also includes Hoon Lee, Tracy Letts, Ciarán Hinds, Martha Plimpton, Joseph Zada, and Joe Anders. Kazan expressed that Florence Pugh was her definitive choice for the role of Cathy Ames, stating she had no backup casting in mind.
As a limited series based on Steinbeck's 1952 novel, there are no current plans for a second season of "East of Eden" on Netflix.
The series is available for streaming on Netflix. The platform offers various subscription plans, starting at $8.99 per month for the ad-supported tier, with ad-free Standard and Premium options available for $19.99 and $26.99 per month, respectively. Netflix does not currently offer a free trial.
The 1955 film adaptation directed by Elia Kazan, starring James Dean, is available for rent or purchase on platforms such as Amazon and YouTube.
