Neighbours Revived with AI-Generated Micro-Episodes Featuring Margot Robbie

The Australian soap opera Neighbours is set to return in a new format, utilizing artificial intelligence to create micro-episodes for mobile devices. The reboot will focus on individual characters, with the initial installments centering on Margot Robbie, who previously played Donna Freedman.

Production company Fremantle has partnered with the vertical video platform RoseBerry for the project. RoseBerry will employ AI to edit existing storylines into bite-sized episodes tailored for vertical viewing. These AI-assisted micro-episodes will follow two distinct storylines featuring Robbie.

The revamped Neighbours series will be available on the micro-drama app Epis, with subscription plans ranging from AUD $14.99 to $29.99 per week, or AUD $49.99 per month. A specific launch date for the new episodes has not yet been announced.

"Neighbours is an iconic piece of television history and exactly the kind of premium entertainment IP we believe can thrive in the vertical format," said Guy Hameiri, Co-Founder and CEO of RoseBerry Media, in a statement. "This is the first time we've had the opportunity to apply RedSnapper to a long-running soap with such a rich library of characters, storylines and cultural moments, and Fremantle has been a fantastic partner in helping bring that vision to life."

The original Neighbours series concluded its run in December 2025, after being cancelled by Amazon. This marked the second time the show had been axed, following its initial end in July 2022.

The soap opera, which aired on Channel Ten in Australia, had a significant global following and was instrumental in launching the careers of numerous actors, including Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, and Guy Pearce. Its 2022 finale featured many of its former stars, including Minogue, Donovan, and Robbie.

Amazon Prime had stepped in to revive the show in September 2023, but after two years, the streaming service confirmed the soap would cease production permanently. An Amazon spokesperson noted the show's 40-year legacy and expressed pride in having facilitated its continuation on Freevee and Prime Video for the preceding two years, during which over 400 episodes were released.
