The space agency paid tribute to the late "Star Trek" actor with a celestial image resembling the USS Enterprise.
NASA joined the global outpouring of grief following the death of actor Patrick Stewart, who passed away at age 86. The space agency honored the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" star with a unique tribute featuring an image from the Hubble Space Telescope.
The Hubble captured an image of colliding galaxies that bears a striking resemblance to the USS Enterprise, the iconic starship commanded by Stewart's character, Jean-Luc Picard. NASA shared the image on social media, captioning it: "We mourn the passing of Patrick Stewart, who inspired countless individuals at NASA (and beyond) to go where no one has gone before boldly."
The tribute resonated widely, garnering nearly 700,000 views as of Friday afternoon. Among those touched by the gesture was Denise Crosby, Stewart's former "Next Generation" co-star, who played Tasha Yar. Crosby shared her own heartfelt message, expressing gratitude for having worked with Stewart, whom she described as "one of the greatest."
Stewart, celebrated for his role as Captain Picard, left an indelible mark on science fiction and inspired many, including those at NASA, to explore the unknown.
