Mulligan and Mumford Raise Over $7 Million for Children in Conflict

Carey Mulligan and Marcus Mumford's annual benefit for the Children In Conflict charity has raised £5.78 million (approximately $7.1 million), a record for the couple. The event, held Sunday night at Los Angeles' El Rey Theatre, saw a significant outpouring of support for children living in war zones and high-conflict areas globally.

Actress Mulligan, 41, announced the impressive sum, noting it was more than they had ever raised before. Mumford, 39, expressed gratitude to the Los Angeles community, stating the funds will help provide support to over one million children.

Children In Conflict is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting, educating, and providing mental health support to children affected by conflict. This marked the couple's first Children in Conflict event held in Los Angeles, following previous fundraisers in London and New York.

The evening featured comedian Jack Whitehall as the Master of Ceremonies and included appearances from notable figures such as actresses Emma Watson, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Courteney Cox, and Kristen Bell. Bell's husband, actor Dax Shepard, was also in attendance, alongside a host of industry professionals including David Chang, Lee Sung Jin, Sarah Polley, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Simon Kinberg, Cleo Wade, Kristie Macosko Krieger, and Kathleen Kennedy.

Musical performances were provided by Mumford & Sons, Brandi Carlile, Sierra Ferrell, and Jensen McRae. Hollywood stars Octavia Spencer and Viola Davis contributed with readings during the event.

Rob Williams, CEO of Children in Conflict, highlighted the growing support from the Los Angeles community and expressed optimism about reaching more children than ever before. He indicated that the organization plans to host more events in Los Angeles next year and encouraged wider public involvement.

This fundraising achievement follows Mulligan's recent recognition, having been awarded a CBE by King Charles at Windsor Castle earlier this summer for her contributions to drama. Mulligan, a BAFTA winner, described the honor as "extraordinary."
