MNEK Cancels Tour Citing Ticket Sales and Production Costs
Grammy-nominated artist Uzoechi Emenike cites financial pressures and unmet artistic standards for the postponement.
Grammy-nominated artist MNEK has canceled his upcoming tour for his latest album, Bulldozer!!, citing a lack of ticket sales and high production costs as primary reasons.
The tour was scheduled to begin next month. In a statement shared on Instagram, the 31-year-old artist, whose real name is Uzoechi Emenike, explained that he joins a growing number of artists recently canceling shows due to what he described as "high production costs" and "over-ambitious planning."
MNEK expressed his disappointment, stating, "I have no interest in doing this tour if I can't do it right." He thanked the fans who had purchased tickets and assured them that refunds would be processed soon. The artist also indicated a desire to tour the album in the future when he can deliver a show that meets his standards and "fans deserve."
This cancellation follows a trend of artists facing similar challenges. Earlier this year, The Pussycat Dolls postponed almost the entire US leg of their reunion tour due to poor ticket sales.
Fellow artists offered support to MNEK in the wake of his announcement. Zara Larsson, whose album Midnight Sun was executive produced by MNEK, was among those showing solidarity. Leigh-Anne Pinnock of Little Mix and singer Becky Hill also sent messages of support, with Hill noting the significant expense involved in touring while expressing confidence in MNEK's ability to find a way forward.
