News of Hottle's death emerged on Tuesday after her father, Joshua Hottle, shared a video on Facebook. He explained that he had been notified of Kaylee's crash and that her heart had stopped en route to the hospital.

According to a press release from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Department, the vehicle Hottle was in swerved off the road and struck a ditch in Ijamsville around 3 a.m. Excessive speed is believed to have been a contributing factor. The 1995 Honda Accord was driven by a 19-year-old who sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The other passenger in the car declined medical assistance.

Hottle, who was visiting the area at the time of the incident, was pronounced dead at a local trauma center. She was unconscious when paramedics arrived at the scene. The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit is continuing its investigation into the collision.
