Michael Douglas Details Affairs in New Memoir
The acclaimed actor reveals he had an on-set affair with 'Basic Instinct' co-star Jeanne Tripplehorn and was close to leaving his wife for her.
Michael Douglas has disclosed in his new memoir, "One Helluva Ride," that he engaged in an affair with his "Basic Instinct" co-star Jeanne Tripplehorn, a revelation that came nearly 20 years after the film's release. Douglas admitted in the book that he fell deeply for Tripplehorn, despite their age difference, and was at one point prepared to leave his then-wife, Diandra Luker, for her.
While speculation at the time linked Douglas and his on-screen love interest Sharon Stone, Douglas clarified that the affair was with Tripplehorn. He stated that their relationship continued throughout the production of the 1992 film but concluded once filming wrapped.
Douglas was married to Luker when the affair took place, although he noted they were separated and living apart at the time. Luker eventually filed for divorce in 1995, and it was finalized in 2000. Douglas later married Catherine Zeta-Jones in November 2000.
In the memoir, Douglas also confessed to a past affair with Kathleen Turner during the filming of the 1984 movie "Romancing the Stone." This admission followed decades of denials from both actors. Douglas explained that their on-set romance grew from their close working relationship and mutual respect, acknowledging that they were attracted to each other. He and Luker were technically separated during the filming of "Romancing the Stone," and he stated that they lied about the affair to protect Luker and their son, Cameron.
Turner and Douglas reportedly kept their relationship secret, even from the film's crew. Their affair ended after Luker visited the set with their son, making it clear to Turner that Douglas was still married. Douglas and Zeta-Jones share two children, Dylan and Carys.
