Melissa George's French Accent in Tom Cruise Video Sparks Fan Confusion

Actress Melissa George has bewildered fans with a distinctly French accent heard in a recent Instagram video shared with Tom Cruise. George, 50, who was born and raised in Perth, Australia, moved to France in 2011 after beginning a relationship with entrepreneur Jean-David Blanc.

The clip, seemingly filmed on the set of 'Mission Impossible,' features George asking Cruise to greet her eldest children, Raphael and Solal. As she spoke, a noticeable French inflection was present, prompting immediate reactions from her followers.

Commenters expressed surprise, with one asking, "You're an Aussie. What's up with the accent?" Another queried, "Why the funny accent? Are you in character?" Some fans defended George, suggesting that years of living in France might have naturally influenced her speech patterns.

This is not the first time George's relationship with her Australian identity has drawn attention. In a 2012 interview on Channel Seven's 'The Morning Show,' she expressed frustration with media focus on her early role in 'Home and Away.' She stated that the stress of returning to Australia for work was detrimental to her health and that she preferred the ambiance of Paris or New York.

"I don't need credibility from my country anymore, I just need them all to be quiet," she said at the time, later issuing an apology and reaffirming her pride in her Australian roots.

George, who has four children, remains based in Paris due to custody arrangements that require her ex-partner Jean-David Blanc's consent for her older sons, Raphael and Solal, to leave France. The identities of the fathers of her two youngest children remain undisclosed.

Fans of the star took to the comments to point out that she no longer had the relaxed and distinctive sound of Australia in her tone
