Mel C Accused of Miming During 'Strictly Come Dancing' Performance

Strictly Come Dancing viewers have accused Melanie Chisholm, also known as Mel C, of miming during her performance on the show's results program on Sunday night. The Spice Girls icon, 52, performed a fitness-themed routine alongside professional dancers, utilizing props such as skipping ropes, dumbbells, spin bikes, and treadmills.

Following the performance, some viewers expressed their skepticism on social media platform X, with comments questioning if Mel C was actually singing live. Reactions included queries such as, "Mel C miming. This song doesn’t require much singing but still surprised," and "Was Mel C even singing during the performance #strictly." Other comments remarked on the perceived lack of vocal effort, with one user asking, "Why did they bother putting a microphone on Mel C?"

However, the singer also received support from fans who defended her performance, with many commenting that she looked and sounded "incredible." Viewers praised her appearance and the overall routine, with one fan stating, "As if we needed more evidence why is the best Spice Girl #StrictlyComeDancing."

Mel C had previously expressed her excitement about performing on Strictly, noting it was "incredible to be performing on Strictly." She last appeared on the show in 2007 with the Spice Girls for a performance of "2 Become 1." Mel C has stated in interviews that she is frequently asked to compete on the show but would only consider Strictly, having met with producers annually.

In other show news, former England footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips was the fourth celebrity to be eliminated from the competition. The 45-year-old ex-Manchester City and Chelsea player and his professional partner Alexis Warr were voted off after the judges opted to save actress Jaime Winstone in the dance-off. Judges Craig Revel Horwood and Anton Du Beke criticized Wright-Phillips's performance, with Revel Horwood branding it "a disaster, darling" and Du Beke noting that the pair seemed to be dancing different routines. Wright-Phillips acknowledged making mistakes but stated he had performed the routine perfectly during rehearsals.

Saturday night's show saw Olympian Tabby Stoecker and Mark Karmalita achieve the highest score of 37 points for their Couple's Choice routine, earning the first 10s of the series. Singer Delta Goodrem also returned to the dancefloor with her partner Kai Widdrington, scoring 34 points for their rumba after missing the previous week due to a rib injury.

Last week, former Paralympic cyclist Dame Sarah Storey and her professional partner Julian Caillon were the third couple to be eliminated after losing the dance-off to actress Bethany Antonia and Nancy Xu.
