Margot Robbie attracted attention on the red carpet at the New York premiere of her new film A Big Bold Beautiful Journey on Monday, stepping out in a cleavage‑bearing, thigh‑split dress that industry observers said carried a risk of a wardrobe malfunction.
The 35‑year‑old actress wore a gown with a corset bodice and a flowy, cut‑out skirt and paired the look with black strappy heels and silver statement earrings. She had her curled blonde hair tied in a bun and smiled for photographers as she entered the event. The appearance comes less than a year after Robbie welcomed her first child.
Robbie plays Sarah in the romantic fantasy, which pairs her with Colin Farrell as David. The story follows the two characters after they meet at a mutual friend’s wedding and are swept into an otherworldly adventure when they discover a door in the woods that serves as a portal to past moments in their lives. As they pass through, they relive formative events, including David’s unrequited teenage love and Sarah’s memories of her dying mother.
The cast also includes Phoebe Waller‑Bridge, Hamish Linklater, Lily Rabe, Billy Magnussen and Jodie Turner‑Smith. Sony Pictures released a trailer in June that opens with David and Sarah meeting while each is ostensibly alone; a car computer asks David if he wants to go on “a big, bold, beautiful journey” and the pair are directed into the woods to find the door. The trailer ends with David saying, “No matter who you are in your life, you just need someone to share it with.”
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey is scheduled to open in Australia on Sept. 18 and in the United States and United Kingdom on Sept. 19. Early footage and promotional materials released by the studio have generated positive reactions online, with some viewers calling it the “movie of the year.”
Robbie has remained active since the global success of Barbie but told Deadline in 2023 she planned to step back from acting for a period and focus on off‑screen work. At the time she said she thought audiences might be fatigued by seeing her too frequently and that she intended to “disappear from screens for a while.”
Representatives for Robbie and the film did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The premiere appearance continues a pattern of high‑profile promotional stops ahead of the film’s theatrical release.
