Margot Robbie attended the London premiere of A Big Bold Beautiful Journey on Thursday, arriving in a sheer, floor-length gown that was intricately embellished with crystals and sequins and featured a low open back. Colin Farrell, her co-star in the film, also attended the screening, wearing a trench coat over a black suit and tie.
Robbie, who returned to acting less than a year after taking time off and giving birth to her son, posed with Farrell on the carpet before the screening. The film is scheduled to be released in cinemas on Sept. 19.
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey follows Sarah (Robbie) and David (Farrell), two strangers who meet at a mutual friend’s wedding and are drawn into an otherworldly journey that allows them to relive pivotal moments from their pasts. In the film’s trailer, released in June by Sony Pictures, the characters discover a door in the woods that acts as a portal to earlier points in their lives, including scenes involving unrequited love and the death of a parent.
The cast includes Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Hamish Linklater, Lily Rabe, Billy Magnussen and Jodie Turner-Smith. Online reactions to the trailer have been largely positive, with some viewers calling it the “movie of the year.”
Robbie has spoken in interviews about motherhood since returning to the public eye. She said of explaining parenthood to others: "It's like, [when] you try to explain to someone who has kids, you don't need to because they get it, and if they don't, it’s probably just really boring to hear." She added, "So, it’s kind of like, 'It’s the best,' you know?"
The premiere in London follows the film’s marketing rollout over the summer, including the June trailer that established the premise and tone. A Big Bold Beautiful Journey blends elements of romance and fantasy as its protagonists confront and re-experience formative events; studio materials and the trailer emphasize memory, connection and emotional reckoning as central themes.
Robbie rose to global prominence in recent years with high-profile roles, including her performance in Barbie, and her appearance at Thursday’s premiere marks one of her first major red-carpet returns since becoming a parent. The film opens widely on Sept. 19.
