Madonna's Grammy Hopes Rise with 'Confessions II' Success and VMA Sweep

Madonna's fifteenth studio album, "Confessions II," is now being positioned for a potential Album of the Year nomination at the upcoming Grammy Awards, according to industry trackers. The surge in her prospects follows a dominant performance at the recent MTV Video Music Awards, where the 68-year-old artist secured seven wins from thirteen nominations, including Artist of the Year, Best Dance, and Best Album.

Awards tracker Gold Derby reports that Madonna's VMAs success has generated significant momentum for "Confessions II." The publication noted that the VMAs provided a crucial platform, reinforcing the album's visibility and industry support among Recording Academy voters. The performance at the awards ceremony, featuring collaborations with Sabrina Carpenter and Charli XCX, is considered to have solidified the album's presence on voters' radar.

As a result of this momentum, Madonna has reportedly moved ahead of Taylor Swift's "The Life of a Showgirl" in the Album of the Year category odds. Madonna is currently ranked sixth overall, behind contenders such as Olivia Dean, Olivia Rodrigo, Bruno Mars, Rosalia, and Raye.

Beyond the Album of the Year consideration, "Confessions II" is also widely expected to be nominated for, and potentially win, Best Dance/Electronic Album. This would mark Madonna's second win in that category, having previously received the award in 2007 for "Confessions on a Dance Floor." If she wins, she would be the first woman to achieve this feat twice.

Confessions II topped the Billboard 200 chart and is already one of the most critically acclaimed pop albums of 2026

Madonna has not received a Grammy nomination since 2010, and her last Album of the Year nod was for "Ray of Light" in 1999. "Confessions II" has been Madonna's most commercially successful album in years, reaching No. 1 in 17 countries, including the U.S. on the Billboard 200. It also features the hit single "Bring Your Love" with Sabrina Carpenter.

Critically, the album has been lauded as one of Madonna's strongest in decades, receiving high praise from publications such as Vogue, Mojo, Stereogum, Variety, and Rolling Stone. The album's lyrics, which delve into personal themes including her relationships and early career, have been particularly highlighted. "Confessions II" also includes collaborations with younger artists like Carpenter and Charli XCX, as well as Kylie Minogue.
