Madonna Marks Daughter Lourdes' 30th Birthday with Emotional Tribute
The pop icon reflected on their "biblical connection" and the dramatic circumstances of Lourdes Leon's birth.
Madonna shared a heartfelt tribute to her eldest daughter, Lourdes Leon, celebrating her 30th birthday and recounting the dramatic 18-hour labor that preceded her birth.
Born on October 14, 1996, Lourdes' father is Carlos Leon, whom Madonna dated in the 1990s. The singer described her daughter's birth as a "fever dream" and recalled that an emergency C-section was necessary after Lourdes' heartbeat slowed.
"Your chin was tilted up in my birth canal, you were looking for the stars you were stuck," Madonna wrote in a post accompanied by childhood photos of Lourdes. "After 18 hours of labor and your heartbeat slowing down, an emergency C-section was the only option." She also alluded to the media attention surrounding the event, noting "helicopters and news crews swirling above our heads on the top floor of the hospital in East East LA."
Maddona characterized their bond as "biblical," stating, "When I ask God to explain it to me He tells me- Look in the mirror! We are Two sides of the same coin."
Lourdes, who uses the moniker Lolahol for her musical endeavors, has been establishing her career in the music industry since releasing her first single, "Lock&Key," in 2022. She also has a background in modeling, having worked with brands like Burberry and Marc Jacobs. She attended the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance from 2014 to 2018.
Carlos Leon also paid tribute to his daughter on social media with a slideshow of photos. Madonna is also mother to Rocco Ritchie, David Banda, Mercy James, and twins Stella and Estere.
The tribute comes after Madonna's recent VMA performance, which drew criticism and concern for her health. Following the event, reports emerged that her family had staged an intervention. This appearance was her first at the VMAs since 2003. Her career has also been marked by a health scare in 2023, when she was hospitalized with a serious bacterial infection and spent time in intensive care. She later described the experience as a "near-death" event.
