Love Island Winner Criticized by Florist Over "Pathetic" Bouquet Video

An independent florist has pushed back against claims by Love Island winner Finley Tapp, who described a £20 bouquet he purchased as "pathetic" in a video shared online. The owner of The Flower Boutique in Woburn Sands accused Tapp of hypocrisy for criticizing a small business while he himself has partnered with a flower delivery service that supports local florists.

Tapp, who rose to fame after winning season six of ITV's reality TV show, filmed himself with the bouquet purchased for his wife, who was returning to work after maternity leave. He expressed disappointment with the size of the arrangement, which included asters, a rose, delphiniums, and foliage, stating that he expected a larger bouquet for £20.

The owner, Kim, responded via the boutique's Instagram account, highlighting Tapp's recent paid partnership with Interflora UK. In a video for the company, Tapp had praised Interflora for supporting local businesses. Kim questioned the influencer's actions, suggesting his budget was the issue rather than the quality of the flowers and criticizing him for filming a staff member without permission.

Kim further explained the pricing differences between independent florists and supermarkets. She noted that large chains can sell flowers at a lower price due to mass production, chemical preservatives, and the ability to absorb costs across a wider range of products. Independent florists, she explained, operate on smaller order volumes, leading to different pricing structures.

Tapp's video, which he allegedly filmed "in secret," showed him panning the interior of the shop and capturing a florist at work. Kim stated that this was done without consent and was inappropriate.

Supporters of The Flower Boutique echoed Kim's sentiments, with many praising the florist's work given the budget and criticizing Tapp for his public complaint. Some questioned Kim's decision to publicly name Tapp and his affiliation, suggesting it could have been handled differently. One comment also expressed concern that calling the budget "pathetic" could alienate customers with similar spending limits.
